After getting bashed online for his 'drama' remark on Pakistan batter Babar Azam, Ramiz Raja mocked another Pakistan player on air during the ongoing first Test between the hosts and South Africa at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Raja made fun of Pakistan spinner Noman Ali's glasses during Day 2 of the Test match.
The incident took place during the 25th over of South Africa's first innings on the second day of the Test match. As Noman arrived on the crease to start the over, Raja, who was on commentary, made a remark that many felt was in bad taste. The former Pakistan cricketer said Noman's glasses looked like 'welding glasses', drawing criticism once again for his comments.
“He’s wearing a fancy pair of glasses, Noman Ali. Looks like welding glasses," Raja said on air. A clip of his comment soon went viral on social media, drawing flak from the fans.
This is not the first time Raja, a former Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief, has made a controversial remark on air during the Test match. On the opening day of the game, the commentator was caught on the mic mocking Babar after the Pakistan batter reviewed a caught behind call against spinner Senuram Muthusamy.
During the replays, Raja was heard in the background saying, "Ye out hai, drama karega (He is out, now he will create drama)". His remark caught the fans by surprise as a clip of the same quickly went viral on social media. Raja was widely criticised for mocking the Pakistan star on air.
Noman Ali starred with the ball on Day 2 to put Pakistan on top against South Africa with his 4-wicket haul in Lahore. Pakistan spinners dominated the proceedings as the Proteas were reduced to 216/6 at stumps. Noman was the wrecker-in-chief for the hosts with a brilliant spell.
He drew the first blood for Pakistan by dismissing South Africa skipper Aiden Markram cheaply on 20 before picking up the wickets of Wiaan Mulder (17), Tristan Stubbs (8) and Kyle Verreynne (2) to complete his four-fer and put Pakistan in control. Spinners Sajid Khan and Salman Ali Agha picked up a wicket apiece as South Africa were left reeling at 216/6.
