New Delhi: Eight months earlier, Ayush Doseja was named in Delhi's Ranji Trophy squad that featured star batter Virat Kohli, but was ruled out of the game after twisting his ankle on the eve of the match.

The MBA student finally made his Ranji Trophy debut in the ongoing season against Hyderabad and scored 209 runs off 279 balls with the help of 25 boundaries and five maximums. His contribution powered Delhi to 529/4 at the NextGen Cricket Ground. He forged a 319-run partnership for the fifth wicket along with Sanat Sangwan as Delhi dominated the second day's play.

After scoring his maiden double ton, Doseja talked about the missed chance of sharing the dressing room with Kohli and said that it just came and went away, but destiny had other plans for him.

"As a child, you can only dream of playing alongside Virat sir... getting a double hundred on Ranji debut has lessened that pain of missing a chance to play in Virat sir’s team," Doseja told PTI.

The left-handed batter also credited Sangwan for the long hours spent batting through age-group cricket, which helped them build a massive partnership.

Doseja said that he and Sanat have played a lot of cricket together since U-23, and they knew they will score big runs if they play positive cricket.

"I am also pursuing my MBA from a private university in Meerut; it is not like a plan B,” he added. He also revealed he had trials with the Delhi Capitals recently and that the Mumbai Indians also invited him for trials in October, but he will skip them to play the Ranji Trophy.

Coach Ajay Chaudhary tracked him since boyhood and said that Doseja first came to him with his dad when he was not even 10. For Delhi, it is a great start to the domestic season as two batters have notched up double hundreds in the first round.
