New Delhi: The Indian women's cricket team will take on Sri Lanka in the five-match T20I series, following their ODI World Cup triumph. The Women in Blue defeated South Africa by 52 runs in the final of the tournament in Navi Mumbai on November 2.
Harmanpreet and Co. were set to play three ODI matches and three T20Is against Bangladesh in December. But the series has been postponed due to escalating political tensions between the two nations.
Due to this, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced a five-match T20I series against Sri Lanka. The series will begin at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on 21 December and will move to Thiruvananthapuram after the second T20I. The Greenfield International Stadium will host the last three games from December 26.
The Women in Blue will look to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to begin in England and Wales from June 2026. After winning the ODI World Cup at home, Harmanpreet and Co. will now shift their focus to the T20I silverware.
The Women in Blue faced a group-stage exit in the previous women's T20I World Cup in 2024 after losing against New Zealand and Australia. Since then, the Indian side has defeated West Indies (2–1) and England (3–2) in the next two series.
Harmanpreet and Co. will also take on Australia in February 2026 and England in May 2026 to finalise their preparations for the T20 World Cup. The expectations from the Indian women's cricket team are high after they finally ended their ICC title drought with the ODI World Cup win at home.
