New Delhi: Jemimah Rodrigues produced a player of the performance in India’s eight-wicket won in their five-match series opener against Sri Lanka on Sunday and said their focus was on the Women’s T20 World Cup next year.
Rodrigues scored an unbeaten 69 off 44 balls with 10 boundaries as India chased down a 122-run target in 14.4 overs in Visakhapatnam.
Speaking after the match, the right hand batter said she wants to maintain her good form of the ODI World Cup till the T20 World Cup hat begins on June 12.
"When the runs are coming, I need to capitalise. That was the mindset," she said, adding that the team is in a good head soace pist their ODI World Cup triumph.
"We have been going really well. What has happened in the past has happened. What's next? It is the T20 World Cup. We just want to win that."
Asked to comment on her innings at the ACA- VDCA stadium, She said still tried to find gaps on the field and place the ball in those areas.
"It was slightly sticky, not as flat as everyone initially though. I was in good touch. My mindset was simple. In my mind I was blank, I was just reacting to the ball," Rodrigues said.
While Indian bowlers collectively produced an impressive outing to restrict Sri Lanka to only 121 for six, spilling several catches was a worry for skipper Harmanpreet Kaur.
The hosts spilled several regulation catches, which Kaur promised to rectify in upcoming matches.
"Yeah, did well with bat and ball but fielding is something we're really working hard. But I don't know why we keep dropping catches but yeah next match we'll come up with even better approach,” she said.
"It's wet (because of dew), no doubt about it but it's no excuse. We know these conditions are going to be there. I think that is something which we really need to think about it because at crucial matches these things can cost us. In next match I'm sure we'll come up with a better approach."
