The International Cricket Council (ICC) has reportedly shortlisted the venues for the semi-final matches for the T20 World Cup 2026. The tournament is set to be played in February-March next year and will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The ICC has reportedly finalised a total of 8 venues, including five in India, for the competition.

As per Cricbuzz, the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad and the Eden Gardens in Kolkata have been shortlisted as the venues for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup next year. The report adds that Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai are the other three venues in India that have been finalised to host matches in the tournament.

Meanwhile, three venues have been shortlisted in Sri Lanka for the T20 World Cup 2026. Two stadiums in Colombo and one in Kandy will be hosting the matches in the tournament next year. Both semi-finals will be played in India if neither Sri Lanka nor Pakistan manage to make it to the last four.

However, Colombo will host one of the semi-final matches if Pakistan or Sri Lanka make it to the knockout stage of the tournament. The venue for the all-important final has not been finalised yet as the decision will depend on whether Pakistan reach the summit clash.

With Pakistan set to play all their matches in Sri Lanka, the final can be moved out of India if the Men in Green make it to the summit clash. However, if Pakistan fail to reach the final, the summit clash is likely to be hosted in India. The final decision on the venue of the final has thus been kept open ended.

T20 World Cup 2026 format

The T20 World Cup 2026 will be a 20-team tournament and will be played in a similar format as the last edition of the tournament in 2024. The 20 teams will be divided into four different groups of five teams each. All five teams will play each other once in the group stage.

The top two teams from each group will qualify for the Super Eight stage of the tournament. The top four teams from the Super 8 will make it to the semi-finals. Netherlands, Nepal, UAE, Namibia and Oman will feature in the tournament along with the 13 Test-playing nations.

The T20 World Cup 2026 is expected to be a fiercely competitive tournament featuring the top teams. India are the defending champions, having won the last edition of the tournament under Rohit Sharma and will head into the tournament as one of the favourites for the title.
