New Delhi: As per Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi's statement, Friday, January 30, is the first deadline for the side to announce their confirmation regarding the participation in the T20 World Cup 2026. The entire cricketing world has been left on the edge regarding the decision as to whether the side will participate in the marquee event or not.
Though there are reports circulating on social media that the tickets for the Pakistan contingent have been finalised and the team is about to travel to Colombo for the showpiece spectacle but an official word is still awaited. Last week, a meeting took place between Naqvi and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif where the PM insisted in maintaining good relations with the ICC.
Amid all this drama, Pakistan PM Sharif has been brutally trolled on social media for his post for the national team after their beat Australia in the first T20I. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra trolled the PM after he called a 20-run victory electrifying.
Earlier, Iceland Cricket trolled Pakistan twice over their drama of pulling out from the marquee event saying that they are ready to replace them and fly to Colombo once they pull out of the event. Meanwhile during the same course of time, many Indian cricketers have said that Pakistan lack of guts of calling it quits from this edition as they cannot afford it.
In the Pakistan faction, former players are urging the PCB to not boycott the event as it will not prove good as far as their relations with the global governing body are concerned. Pakistan has an agreement with the ICC and BCCI that they will play all their big ICC events that are staged in India at a neutral venue and despite this, they have started the drama of WC boycott.
