The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) has reportedly decided to boycott the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting in Dhaka, Bangladesh over political and diplomatic concerns. BCCI has requested a change in venue of the meeting, asking for it to be moved out of Bangladesh's capital amid strained political relations between India and Bangladesh.

The ACC meeting is scheduled to take place in Dhaka on July 24. However, BCCI's participation in the meeting is uncertain after the Indian cricket board informed the ACC that it wouldn't be sending its members to Dhaka. As per a report in India Today, sources confirmed that the BCCI has informed about its decision to ACC chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

BCCI has support from other member nations such as Sri Lanka, Oman and Afghanistan in their move to boycott the upcoming meeting. The three countries are set to join the BCCI in boycotting the meeting, citing similar concerns. However, Naqvi, who is adamant about hosting the meeting in Dhaka, has yet to respond to BCCI's request.

"The BCCI has clearly communicated its stance to both the ACC and Chairman Naqvi. They've also personally requested a change in venue, but there has been no response so far," a source was quoted as saying by India Today.

The Asia Cup 2025 is in limbo amid the fiasco over the upcoming ACC meeting, as the tournament might not take place if the meeting doesn't happen. If BCCI refuses to attend the meeting, any decisions taken during the meeting can be deemed invalid according to the ACC constitution, further deepening concerns about the tournament.

Asia Cup 2025 scheduled to take place in September

The Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to be played in September this year. The tournament will be played in T20 format, with the T20 World Cup scheduled to take place next year. India are the official host of the tournament, however, the marquee India-Pakistan clash is set to be played at a neutral venue.

India refused to travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025 earlier this year and played their matches in the UAE during the tournament. The final between India and New Zealand was also moved out of Pakistan and was played in Dubai. India beat the Kiwis in the final to lift the trophy.

Like India, Pakistan is unlikely to travel to India for the Asia Cup 2025 and will play their matches at a neutral venue. However, it remains to be seen how the situation will evolve if BCCI boycotts the meeting in Dhaka.
