New Delhi: Bangladesh players have threatened to boycott all forms of cricket until Bangladesh cricket board director Najmul Islam resigns from his role. This development comes after Islam's disparaging comments against the players where hen questioned the commitment of the national stars triggering strong reactions all across.

President of the Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB), Mohammad Mithun, confirmed the decision just few hours after Nazmul addressed the media. The BCB director said there exist certain national players who failed to justify the support and resources invested in them. He further said that the board spends so much on them and they go to different places and fail to deliver.

'We spend so much on them, yet they go to different places and fail to deliver. Have we managed to win even a single global title to date? Every time, we could say: you didn’t perform, so return the money we spent on you,' Islam added.

The comments were said to be disrespectful towards the players representing the Bangladesh cricket team and drew criticism on social media with some former cricketers asking for a greater accountability and responsibility from the board officials while delivering comments.

BCB issues statement

In response to the backlash, BCB issued a statement expressing regret and even stressing that Najmul's comments did not reflect the board values and their officials position.

'The BCB does not endorse or take responsibility for any statement unless it is formally issued through the board's designated spokesperson or the Media and Communications Department,' the Board said, adding that comments made outside authorised channels are personal in nature.

BCB also said that they hold both the current and former players at the highest regard. The players remain at the heart of Bangladesh cricket and their contributions and welfare continue to be a top priority.
