New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has finally taken a firm stand with regards to Bangladesh's participation in the forthcoming T20 World Cup 2026. The ICC, in a board meeting on Wednesday, asserted that if Bangladesh continues to refuse to travel to India for next month's showpiece event, they will be shown the door, confirms ESPNcricinfo.

During the meeting attended by directors of all the full member countries, the ICC members told the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to inform their government that if Bangladesh cricket team refuses to travel to India citing security concerns for the marquee event beginning February 7, they will be expelled and replaced by Scotland.

The global governing body has further given a day's chance for the side to get back to them and covey their stance on the travel to India. The decision during the meeting was followed by a vote of all the members where majority of the members voted in favour of replacing Bangladesh with Scotland for the upcoming ICC event.

How Scotland fits into the scheme of things?

If this happens to be the case and Bangladesh continue to refuse to travel to India, they would be replaced by Scotland in Group C at the big event. The Scotland team had failed to qualify for the T20 World Cup 2026 after having finished behind Netherlands, Italy and Jersey at the European qualifiers last year and happens to be the next top-ranked side in the qualifiers.

Who all attended the meeting?

Apart from ICC chairman Jay Shah, those participating in the meeting included BCB president Aminul Islam, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, SLC president Shammi Silva, PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi, CA chairman Mike Baird, Zimbabwe Cricket president Tavenga Mukuhlani, CWI president Kishore Shallow, Cricket Ireland chair Brian MacNeice, Cricket New Zealand representative Roger Twose, ECB chair Richard Thompson, Cricket South Arica representative Mohammed Moosajee and Mirwais Ashraf, Cricket Afghanistan chairman.
