New Delhi: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has submitted a formal request to the International Cricket Council (ICC) to shift all its T20 World Cup 2026 games out of India due to growing concerns over the safety and security of players, fans and media.

"Following a thorough assessment of the prevailing situation and the growing concerns regarding the safety and security of the Bangladesh contingent in India and considering the advice from the Bangladesh Government, the Board of Directors resolved that the Bangladesh National Team will not travel to India for the tournament under the current conditions," the BCB statement read.

"The Board believes that such a step is necessary to safeguard the safety and well-being of Bangladeshi players, team officials, Board members and other stakeholders and to ensure that the team can participate in the tournament in a secure and appropriate environment. The Bangladesh Cricket Board looks forward to the ICC's understanding of the situation and an urgent response on this matter," the statement added.

The decision was taken after the BCCI instructed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release pacer Mustafizur Rahman from the IPL 2026 squad, following the violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh. Earlier, it was decided that the board would send letters to the ICC and the BCCI to know about the security arrangements of the tournament, but later changed their mind during the meeting that was attended by the majority of the directors.

According to a Cricbuzz report, the International Cricket Council (ICC) might consider Bangladesh Cricket Board's (BCB) request to shift their games out of India.
