New Delhi: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to approach the International Cricket Council (ICC) to seek clarity on the security arrangements for their players, fans, media and sponsors during the 2026 T20 World Cup, which is scheduled to begin on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka.
The BCB will also write to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to seek a formal explanation for the omission of fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) IPL 2026 squad. According to a Cricbuzz report, these decisions were taken at an emergency meeting of the board's directors in Sylhet after the exclusion of Mustafizur.
On Saturday, the BCCI had directed KKR to release the Bangladesh pacer from their squad. The franchise also released a statement confirming that the pacer has been released from the squad.
"The release has been carried out following due process and consultations, upon the instruction of the Board of Control of Cricket in India. BCCI will allow Kolkata Knight Riders a replacement player in line with IPL regulations, and further details will be communicated in due course," the statement added.
A BCB official told Cricbuzz that the board is sending the letter to the ICC, and they would like to know from them about Mustafizur's exclusion from the IPL, and secondly, about the security plan for them in the T20 World Cup.
"More so because not only players will travel to India but along with them media, fans and sponsors would also travel there to see the World Cup. Those who will go there, what will be their security status," a top BCB official told Cricbuzz.
Bangladesh will start their T20 World Cup campaign on February 7. They are placed in Group C along with West Indies, England, Nepal and Italy. Their opening game will be against two-time champions West Indies on February 7 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
Bangladesh will then face debutants Italy at the same venue on February 9. They will be up against England on February 14, which is also in Kolkata, and their last group match is against Nepal on February 17 in Mumbai.
The BCB will also send a separate email to the BCCI to know about the circumstances that led to Mustafizur's exclusion from the IPL. The pacer was in heavy demand in the 2026 auction, as the three franchises were involved in a bidding war for him. But KKR bought him for Rs 9.2 crore.
