The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is likely to pocket over Rs 400 crore from the Indian cricket team's new jersey sponsorship rights. The BCCI has recently announced the release of an Invitation for Expression of Interest for the lead sponsor rights of the Indian cricket team, following the exit of Dream11.

The Indian cricket board has reportedly raised the valuation of the sponsorship rights with an elevated base price for each game. BCCI has reportedly hiked the base price by over 10 percent for bilateral matches and around 3 percent for international matches, compared to what Dream11 was paying.

As per a report in Cricbuzz, sources have revealed that the new base price is Rs 3.5 crore for bilateral matches and Rs 1.5 crore for multilateral matches, which are part of ACC or ICC competitions. Dream 11 was paying Rs 3.17 crore for a bilateral game and Rs 1.12 crore for each fixture in international tournaments.

With BCCI offering the sponsorship rights for the next three-year cycle, which consists of roughly 130 matches, the Indian cricket board is set to pocket over Rs 400 crore in the deal. The three-year period will also consist of some major tournaments like the T20 World Cup next year and the ODI World Cup in 2027.

What led to Dream11's exit as Indian team's sponsor?

Dream11 signed a three-year deal with the BCCI in 2023, which would have seen the company pay Rs 358 crore to the Indian board over the contract period. However, the deal was ended mutually last month, roughly two years after it was signed.

Dream11 had to end the contract after the company was severely impacted by the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act implemented by the Indian government, which prohibits real-money gaming operations in the country. Dream11 also had to shut its real-money fantasy gaming app which was its major source of earning.

In its Invitation for Expression of Interest for the new sponsorship rights, BCCI made it clear that gaming, betting, crypto, tobacco and alcohol brands are prohibited from bidding. As per reports, Toyota Motor Corporation and a fintech startup are among the brands that have shown interest in securing the sponsorship rights of the Indian team.

As it stands, the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team will be wearing jerseys without any sponsor during the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, as the BCCI has scheduled the bidding for the new sponsorship rights on September 16. The tournament is set to get underway on September 09, with defending champions India opening their campaign against hosts UAE on September 10.
