New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a whopping Rs 51 crore cash prize for the Indian women's team for claiming the historic World Cup title. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led side edged past South Africa in the final by 52 runs at the Dr DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai to win its maiden world title, and got over the heartbreaks of the 2005 and 2017 editions in stunning fashion in front of a packed house.
After failing to cross the final hurdle in 2005 and 2017, the Women In Blue got third time lucky in 2025, scripting history in the eight-team tournament on home soil.
Following the landmark achievement, the BCCI announced a Rs 51 crore cash prize, higher than the prize money India will receive from the ICC. The world governing body will grant an award of USD 4.48 million ( approximately 39.79 crore) to the Indian women's team.
Confirming the developement, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia told news agency ANI that the Indian cricket board will give the women's team a prize of Rs 51 crore.
"Definitely, we have to thank Jay Shah, who is the chair of ICC, because just one month prior to this tournament, they increased the prize money of the ICC Women's World Cup. That is, there is an upshot of about 300 per cent of the prize money," said Saikia.
"That is for the teams to receive it, but as a wonderful performance today in DY Patil Stadium when they have defeated South Africa to win the championship, BCCI is elated and without touching anything from the ICC's kitty, BCCI on its own is going to pay as a reward of 51 crores to the Indian team, that amount will go to the players, the selectors as well as the support staff headed by Amol Muzumdar," he added.
The World Cup win is one of the greatest moments in Indian women's sports history and has the potential to increase the popularity of the game on the grassroots level of women's cricket.
