From almost being written off at one stage, having suffered three defeats in a row in the group stage, Harmanpreet-led India staged an incredible comeback to lift the trophy at the end of a remarkable campaign.
India had lost three matches back-to-back in the group stage, including their game against South Africa. However, the Women in Blue sealed their spot in the semi-finals after beating New Zealand. India then stunned seven-time champions Australia in the semi-finals to enter their first Women's ODI World Cup final in 8 years and the third overall.
Having failed on their last two attempts, India didn't make the mistakes from the past this time around as they produced a clinical show to beat South Africa in the summit clash and lift the elusive trophy. India rode on all-round heroics from Shafali Verma and Deepti Sharma to hammer South Africa by 52 runs in the epic final and etch their name in history.
