Beth Mooney smashes joint 2nd fastest ODI century in women's cricket

New Delhi: Australia women middle-order batter Beth Mooney entered her name in the cricketing record books by smashing the joint second-fastest century in the history of women's ODI. The left-handed batter achieved the sensational feat during the third final ODI game against India women at the Arun Jaitley stadium in New Delhi on Saturday.

Coming out for bat at the number four position, Mooney took just 57 balls to reach the 100-run mark hammering 16 fours and a lone six at the time of writing this report. The Australia women batter crossed the 100-run mark by smashing Radha Yadav for a boundary on the second ball of the 38th over of the first innings.

Adding 82 runs for the fourth wicket with Ashleigh Gardner (39 runs from 24 balls), she made a statement with her masterclass knock. The record of scoring the fastest hundred in women’s ODIs is in the name of former Australian captain Meg Lanning. During the Australia-New Zealand match played in North Sydney on December 17, 2012, Lanning took just 45 balls to reach the 100-run mark.

Meanwhile, her century powered Australia to their joint highest-ever innings total of 412 all out in the ODI format. With the effort, Australia also posted the highest-ever innings total against India, surpassing their own mark of 371/8 set in Brisbane last year.
