The countdown for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 mini auction has begun as all ten franchises gear up to strengthen their respective squads. The IPL 2026 auction is set to take place at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi on December 16. Reportedly, over 1,000 players have registered for the mini auction this month.
As per Cricbuzz, a staggering 1,355 players have registered for the IPL 2026 auction. Some prominent Indian and overseas players have registered for the auction and will be hoping to trigger a bidding war between franchises. Cameron Green is one name that stands out as several franchises might be interested in the Australian all-rounder, who has been tipped by many to be among the most expensive picks at the IPL 2026 auction.
Green, along with the likes of Matthew Short, Steve Smith and Josh Inglis, headlines the list of Australian players who have registered for the IPL 2026 auction. Inglis was released by the Punjab Kings due to availability issues as he is set to get married next year. However, the Aussie batter has registered for the auction.
As per Cricbuzz, Venkatesh Iyer, Ravi Bishnoi, Mayank Agarwal, Deepak Hooda, Prithvi Shaw, Rahul Tripathi, Umesh Yadav, Akash Deep, Sarfaraz Khan, Navdeep Saini, Kuldeep Sen and Chetan Sakariya are among the prominent Indian names in the auction pool. The auction pool also consists of some leading international names.
The likes of Jonny Bairstow and wicket-keeper batter Jamie Smith are among the big names from England. New Zealand batter Rachin Ravindra, Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga and pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who were released by their respective franchises, have also registered for the IPL 2026 auction.
A total of 43 overseas players, including Green, Jamie Smith, Pathirana, Ravindra, Hasaranga, Daryl Mitchell, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Cooper Connolly, have registered in the top bracket of Rs 2 crore for the IPL 2026 mini auction. There are a total of 43 overseas players in the Rs 2 crore bracket in the IPL 2023 auction.
Meanwhile, only two Indians - Bishnoi and Iyer have registered in the top bracket of Rs 2 crore in the IPL 2026 auction. Apart from the prominent Indian and international names, there are also plenty of domestic young talented players available in the auction pool. A lot of franchises have conducted their trials ahead of the auction and will target some young domestic players in the auction.
