Rohit Sharma-led India beat New Zealand by 4 wickets in the final to win the Champions Trophy 2025 title at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on March 09. India lifted a record 3rd title while remaining unbeaten in the tournament as they clinched their second ICC trophy in a row, having won the T20 World Cup 2024 title last year.
India headed into the multi-nation tournament as one of the favourites with one of the strongest squads and managed to live up to the tag with a dominant show in the competition. While Pakistan were the official hosts of the tournament, India played all their matches, including the final, in Dubai after the BCCI refused to send Rohit & Co. to the neighbouring country for the multi-nation tournament.
India began their campaign with a comprehensive six-wicket win against Bangladesh in their opening game in Dubai before beating arch-rivals Pakistan in a much-anticipated clash at the same venue. India rode on a terrific unbeaten century from Virat Kohli to comfortably chase down the target of 242 runs and beat Pakistan by six wickets to bag their second win in a row.
India were up against New Zealand in their final group-stage match and beat the Kiwis by 44 runs after successfully defending a total of 249 runs to end the group stage unbeaten. India continued their dominant run in the semi-final against Australia as they thrashed Steve Smith & Co. by 4 wickets to storm into their 3rd consecutive final.
India produced a clinical all-round display in the final to beat New Zealand by 4 wickets in the final to win a record 3rd Champions Trophy title having won the tournament back in 2002 and 2013. New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first in the final, which was played in Dubai. The Kiwis got off to a good start courtesy of Rachin Ravindra's 37 off 29 balls.
However, they lost three quick wickets after Rachin's departure and were reduced to 108/4. Daryl Mitchell played a crucial knock of 63 runs while Michael Bracewell scored an unbeaten 53 off 40 balls to guide New Zealand to a fighting total of 251 runs on the board. Though it was not a big total, it was going to be a tricky chase for India in Dubai conditions.
However, skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front for the Men in Blue and set up the stage for a convincing victory with a sublime 76-run knock of 83 balls. Rohit combined with his opening partner Shubman Gill to get India off to a strong start as the duo added 105 runs for the first wicket. India lost Gill, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in quick succession to be left in a spot of bother in the run-chase.
However, Shreyas Iyer's 48 off 62 balls and KL Rahul's unbeaten 34 propelled India to victory with an over to spare. India lifted the Champions Trophy after 12 years with Rohit becoming only the second Indian captain after MS Dhoni to win multiple ICC titles.
