New Delhi: Washington Sundar received the 'Impact Player of the Series' medal on Sunday in India's 2-1 victory over Australia in a five-match T20I series.
Sundar was handed over the trophy by Indian team's operations manager Rahil Khaja, in a behind-the-scenes video titled 'Dressing Room BTS' released by the BCCI.
"Coming over here and getting an opportunity to play in Australia is amazing, and to have contributed to the team's victory makes me definitely happy," Sundar said after receiving the medal.
Sundar acknowledged contribution of the team's COO Khaja, which made him emotional.
"It's such a great feeling to get this medal from him. We know the kind of work he (Khaja) puts in every single day to make a lot of our jobs very easy," Sundar said.
"I mean, the first time in my life... I'm just like, looking at this. Actually, we've done this," Khaja said.
The 26-year-old has enhanced his growing status as an all-rounder with impressive displays with both bat and ball.
In the third T20I, Sundar made most of being promoted up the batting order, top-scoring with a game-turning 49 off 23 balls, hitting four sixes and three boundaries, as India won by five wickets to draw parity in the series 1-1.
In the next game, he was brought into the attack in the death overs but took three wickets in five deliveries across two overs that led to Australia's collapse in a 48-run win for India.
It led to India's 2-1 series win as the fifth and final match was washed out in Brisbane on Saturday.
In 57 T20I matches, Sundar has bowling average of just over 22 with an economy under seven, and a batting strike rate of over 134.
