Chennai Super Kings (CSK) shared a hilarious video featuring their CEO Kasi Viswanathan, reacting to the trade rumours linked with the franchise ahead of the IPL 2026 retention deadline. The IPL trading window is currently on, and there have been several trade rumours involving multiple franchises.
However, the hottest rumour that has sparked massive buzz on social media is Indian wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson's potential move to Chennai Super Kings in the trading window. Samson, who is RR's designated captain and has been leading the franchise since 2021, reportedly wants to leave the team for a fresh challenge.
Recently, reports emerged that CSK have reopened talks with Rajasthan Royals over a potential trade deal for Samson. The reports claimed that Samson can move to the five-time champions in a deal involving a big name from CSK. Rumours have suggested RR have asked for Ravindra Jadeja or Shivam Dube in the trade deal.
However, CSK are reportedly reluctant to part ways with any of their core squad members. On Saturday, CSK took to social media to share a video, reacting to the rumours of a trade deal for Samson and others. The video, featuring the franchise's CEO Kasi Viswanathan, began with a Malayalam verse from a Tamil song, appearing to be referring to the buzz around Samson.
Viswanathan can be heard joking in the video about being traded to the Punjab Kings in exchange for PBKS co-owner Preity Zinta. In the end, the CSK CEO appeals to fans not to believe in any trade rumours until there is an official confirmation from the franchise.
Chennai Super Kings are expected to rejig their squad in the upcoming IPL 2026 auction. With R Ashwin already retired, CSK have already freed up Rs 9.75 crore, which will be added to their purse at the auction. The five-time champions are expected to part ways with a few players to add more money to their purse.
CSK will be looking to bolster their all-rounders' department after Ashwin's departure and will also be looking to strengthen their middle order after their disastrous campaign last season. CSK are also expected to retain the likes of Dewald Brevis and Ayush Mhatre, who they roped in as injury replacements last season.
Meanwhile, the legendary MS Dhoni will continue to play for the Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming season. CSK CEO Viswanathan recently confirmed at an event that Dhoni will be available next season. The 44-year-old, who was retained as an uncapped player last season, took over captaincy from Ruturaj Gaikwad midway through last season after an injury to the CSK skipper, however, he failed to take his team to the playoffs.
