New Delhi: Legendary cricketer Sir Donald Bradman's iconic Baggy Green from the India tour of Australia 1947-48 is all set to go under the hammer. The famous cap of the greatest batter ever to have graced the cricketing field will be auctioned at the Llyod Auctions in the next month.
The Llyod Auctions has decided to put the cap up for auction on January 26, 2026, which is also the Australia Day. As per multiple media reports, the cap has been procured by the family of a fellow cricketer for over 70 years, who was given the cap by Bradman himself.
Media reports further suggest that a lot private collectors, cricket fanatics, museums, institutions, and fans around the entire world will be keeping an eye on the auctioning event. The opening bid price for the iconic cap has been kept as low as AED1.
But the auction experts have predicted that the cap has the possibility of crossing the bid to the north of one million dollars, since it belongs to one of the most celebrated batters of the game. After the announcement, Lloyds Auctions' Lee Hames said that it is one of the most important Bradman-related pieces to come to auction.
'This is a genuine piece of cricket history that Sir Donald Bradman personally gifted. Its uninterrupted family ownership for 75 years and its direct link to 'The Don' make it one of the most important Bradman-related pieces to come to auction,' Lloyds Auctions' Lee Hames said.
Meanwhile, this cap is from Team India's maiden tour to Australia, where the great batter gave the Indian bowlers a nightmare. Bradman scored 715 runs in just six innings at an unbelievable average of 178.75 which also included twin centuries in the New Year's Test at the iconic venue of the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Bradman's highest score in the five-match series was 201, as the Australians emerged victorious 4-0.
