Resuming on a hot and sunny morning, they were dismissed in the morning session of the second day.

Mitchell Starc scored his second consecutive half-century of the series before being bowled by seamer Jofra Archer for 54.

The Australian pacer hit five boundaries off Archer and Brydon Carse to begin on an explosive note.

Archer then trapped Nathan Lyon lbw for nine to wrap up Australia’s innings and completing a fifer, becoming the tourists’ most successful bowler with 5-53.

Keeper Alex Carey was Australia’s leading run scorer in the innings with 106 runs, followed by Usman Khawaja’s 82.

Khawaja was initially dropped from the team but Steve Smith’s late pull out with vertigo allowed his late entry into the No.4 batting slot.

Australia lead the five-match series 2-0 after eight-wicket victories in the opening two Tests in Perth and Brisbane.

They need only a draw in the ongoing third game to return the urn.
