New Delhi: KL Rahul has proved to be solid as a pillar for the Indian cricket team in the ongoing five-match Test series against England. Not only has he played the role of an opening batter with perfection but has also sent a clear message to his critics by exhibiting his best stroke play and sensibility at the crease.

Former Indian head coach Ravi Shastri has revealed the reason behind Rahul's success as a batter during the tough England tour. Shastri has said that tweaking 'front-foot' technique has helped the right-hander to become more productive with the bat against English side. He further said that he hopes Rahul continues in the same manner for next three to four years.

'What I am seeing is a slight adjustment he's made with his front foot, in his stance and while defending, Shastri told ICC Review. It just opened up a bit, which allows his bat to come through cleanly. Even when he's hitting it towards mid-wicket, it's the full face of the blade,' he added.

The former Indian player also emphasised on the fact that the current technique also reduces the chances of Rahul getting clean bowled or leg before like in the earlier days. He further said that the dashing batter is very sound technically and has been as good as anyone. The former Indian skipper hoped that Rahul would use his new found strength to capitalise on his batting prime for the next few years.

Rahul's fine run in Test series

The senior batter has so far scored 375 runs in the first three Test matches with two centuries and a half-century at an average of 62.50. In the entire series, he is the highest-run getter Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant and Jamie Smith who are the other big run scorers. Shastri hoped Rahul can start an era of dominance with the bat from this point, and end up with an average close to 50.
