New Delhi: Saying that women's cricket has reached new heights with regards to its popularity, visibility and magnificence would not be wrong after all the cricket fans across the globe witnessed a spectacle in form of the women's ODI World Cup 2025. 

The magnitude of the showpiece event turned out to be such that the DY Patil cricket stadium in Navi Mumbai was jam-packed on Sunday night during the summit clash between Harmanpreet Kaur-led India and South Africa. While India winning the marquee event for the first time went into the history books but what also was historical was the remarkable turnaround for the matches, the hefty rewards and the record-breaking viewership.

Historical viewership for women's cricket

Not only the matches featuring India women and the finale, the viewership of the entire tournament broke all the records in the history of women's cricket. In the first 13 matches of the global event, the viewership was 60 million of which the marquee encounter between arch-rivals India and Pakistan came out to be 24.8 million. 

The semifinal match between India and Australia attracted nearly 131 million viewers while the final on November 2 was watched by almost 200 million viewers. This has surpassed historical numbers as the 2017 women's World Cup final in India saw only 126 million viewers while this edition had nearly 80 million more.

The record viewership also had effects on other things like the advertising rates for the final were up by 40 per cent which indicates the commercial viability of women's cricket. Meanwhile, following India's victory at the event, the Indian cricket board announced a cash prize of Rs 51 crore for the players, support staff and selection committee. In addition, the team will also earn approximately Rs 40 crore from the ICC which makes it a huge amount of money.

Apart from this, other state governments and big establishments are also reported offering a huge sum of money to the Indian cricket players which not only secures but gives an indication that the women's cricket will set new benchmarks in the coming future.
