Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer seems to be on track for complete recovery as he made his first public appearance since suffering a life-threatening spleen injury last month. Iyer shared a picture of himself, where he can be seen enjoying his time at a beach, as he expressed gratitude. The Team India star suffered a horrific injury during the 3rd T20I against Australia in Sydney last month.

Iyer fell awkwardly while trying to complete a stunning catch and ended up hurting his rib cage. Scans revealed he had suffered a laceration of his spleen as he was admitted to a hospital in Sydney. He underwent treatment at the hospital under the supervision of BCCI's team doctor.

Shreyas Iyer underwent minor procedure in Sydney for his spleen injury

Iyer's injury was initially suspected to be a rib cage injury, however, he had to be admitted to a hospital in Sydney after sustaining a lacerated spleen. The Indian cricketer had to be admitted to the ICU at the hospital following internal bleeding caused by the injury.

It turned out to be a life-threatening situation for the Indian cricketer as his health deteriorated. However, he underwent a minor procedure to stop internal bleeding and remained under constant observation before getting discharged from the hospital.

"Shreyas Iyer sustained a blunt injury to his abdomen while fielding during the third ODI against Australia on 25 October 2025, resulting in a laceration of his spleen with internal bleeding. The injury was promptly identified, and the bleeding was immediately arrested following a minor procedure. He has undergone appropriate medical management for the same," BCCI said in a statement.

Iyer, who is India's ODI vice-captain, remains doubtful for India's upcoming ODI series against South Africa at home. The star batter has been one of India's most consistent performers in ODIs, however, his latest injury setback has hampered his progress.

There has been no official word from BCCI on Iyer's comeback yet, and it remains to be seen if he will be fit in time for the three-match ODI series against the Proteas, which gets underway on November 30. Iyer is still in Australia and will travel back to India once he has recovered fully.
