Gunmen attack Pakistan cricketer Naseem Shah's house in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Unidentified gunmen targeted Pakistan fast bowler Naseem Shah's house in Lower Dir of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday. Shah is currently with the Pakistan squad, preparing for their upcoming series against Sri Lanka.

Unidentified assailants opened fire at Pakistan cricketer Naseem Shah's house in Lower Dir of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Monday. As per reports in Pakistani media, gunmen attacked the cricketer's house and fired at the gate before escaping. The cricketer was not at his home as he is currently with Pakistan's squad ahead of their upcoming series against Sri Lanka.

None of the Naseem's family members were hurt in the attack. The attack took place early morning on Monday, and the local police have launched an investigation into the matter. It was initially suspected to be a terrorist attack, however, as per Pakistani media, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa police has arrested five local suspects, linking the attack to personal enmity.

The exact motive behind the attack remains unknown, and it is also not known how many people were present at the house when the attack took place. Naseem chose to remain with the Pakistan squad in Rawalpindi, gearing up for the first ODI between Pakistan and Sri Lanka, which is currently underway at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.

Naseem is part of Pakistan's playing XI in the ongoing first ODI against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. A vital cog in Pakistan's pace attack across formats, Naseem is considered one of the country's best fast bowlers alongside Shaheen Shah Afridi and Haris Rauf. Naseem was part of the recently concluded ODI series between Pakistan and South Africa, where he picked up three wickets in two matches.

Naseem is spearheading Pakistan's pace attack alongside skipper Shaheen and Rauf in the ODI series opener against Sri Lanka. He is also part of Pakistan's T20I setup and is expected to be part of the Men in Green's squad for the T20 World Cup 2026. Naseem has so far played 20 Tests, 32 ODIs and as many T20Is for Pakistan.

The fast bowler has been relatively more successful in ODIs for Pakistan with 58 wickets in 32 matches at an average of 33.17, including two fifers. In Tests, he has scalped 60 wickets in 20 games, while in T20Is, he has 28 wickets to his name in 32 matches.
