Harleen Deol fashions UP Warriorz's first win in WPL

New Delhi: UP Warriorz registered their first win of 2026 Women's Premier League with a seven-wicket win over defending champions Mumbai Indians on Thursday.

Nat-Sciver Brunt's 65 off 43 balls had lifted Mumbai to 161 for five in Navi Mumbai but Deol's unbeaten 64 off 39 deliveries anchored UP to their first win in four matches.

Deol was retired out despite batting well in UP's previous match on Wednesday but rebounded from that disappointment with a match-turning knock to condemn Mumbai to their second loss in four matches.

Deol's batting was purposeful and full of intent as she hit boundaries eith ease, dispatching Shabnim Ismail three times to the boundary in an over.

The India batter reached her half century in the 15th over with a sweep shot off spinner Sanskriti Gupta.

She backed it up with two more boundaries in the same over to bring UP within range og victory.

Deo got company from Chloe Tryon (27 not out off 11) and carried her bat till the end to ensure victory though UP's top-order woes continued with Meg Lanning (25 off 26) and Kiran Navgire (10 off 12) unable to provide a blazing start.

UP bear brunt of Sciver-Brunt

Mumbai openers Amanjot Kaur (38 off 33) and G Kamalimi (5 off 12) were also slow off the blocks on a sluggish pitch that offered turn to spinners.

Sciver-Brunt and Mumbai skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (16 off 11) steadied them after the openers were dismissed in successive overs.

After reaching 54 for two in 10 overs, Sciver-Brunt decided to cut loose as her blistering hitting enabled Mumbai to score 107 runs in the last 10 overs.

Harmanpreet was caught while attempting a sweep shot off Asha Shobhana, Nicola Carey then gave support to Sciver-Brunt, who kept hitting boundaries.

Sciver-Brunt hammered two fours and a six straight down the ground in a 17-runover from Shobhana to give much-needed momentum to the Mumbai innings.
