Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur slammed an unbeaten 71 to power Mumbai Indians (MI) to an emphatic seven-wicket victory against Gujarat Giants (GG) at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2026 on Wednesday, January 13. MI snapped Gujarat Giants' winning streak to record their second win in a row after beating Delhi Capitals in their last game.

Harmanpreet led from the front with her fantastic knock to help the Mumbai Indians make short work of the tricky 193-run target by pulling off their highest successful run chase in the WPL. The MI skipper combined with all-rounders Amanjot Kaur (40) and Nicola Carey (38 not out) to help her team chase down the target with four balls to spare.

Harmanpreet made her intentions clear early on after arriving to bat at no.4 and played some excellent strokes across all parts of the ground in a fine display of powe hitting. The MI skipper's unbeaten 71 off 43 was laced with seven fours and two sixes as she wrapped up the chase for her side by scoring the winning runs in the final over.

She was well supported by all-rounder Amanjot, who was promoted at no.3 and repaid the faith with a quickfire 40 off 26 balls. Amanjot combined with Harmanpreet to add 72 runs for the third wicket to set the platform for a successful chase for MI after their stuttering start, which saw the defending champions lose both their openers for 37 runs in the Powerplay.

After Amanjot's departure, Carey joined Harmanpreet in the middle, and the duo continued the momentum to keep the Gujarat Giants bowlers at bay throughout the chase. The duo shared a match-winning 94 runs for the 4th wicket to power MI to their second win in a row in the tournament.

While Harmanpreet top scored with 71 off 43 balls, Carey played excellent support enroute to her 38 not out off 28 balls, which was studded with six fours. It was yet another dismal bowling performance from the Gujarat Giants after a sensational last over from Sophie Devine saved the day against DC in their last game.

Harmanpreet Kaur achieves twin milestones

Mumbai Indians skipper Harmanpreet achieved twin milestones with her match-winning 71-run knock against the Gujarat Giants. She became the first Indian to complete 1,000 runs in the WPL and the second batter overall after her Mumbai Indians teammate Nat Sciver-Brunt. She also notched up her 10th fifty to become the batter with the most half-centuries in the league so far.

Mumbai Indians make it 8-0 against Gujarat Giants in WPL

Mumbai Indians also extended their winning streak to eight matches against Gujarat Giants in the WPL with their seven-wicket victory in Navi Mumbai on Tuesday. The two-time champions have never lost a game against the Gujarat Giants since the inception of the tournament in 2023.

On Tuesday, Gujarat Giants produced a fine batting performance after being asked to bat first in the game. They lost opener Devine cheaply on 8 in the third over, however, the experienced Beth Mooney (33) combined with young Kanika Ahuja to get GG's innings back on track with a 42-run stand for the second wicket.

While Mooney played the anchor's role, Ahuja took the aggressive route after being promoted to bat at no.3 and ended up smashing a quickfire 35 off 18 balls to provide impetus to GG's innings. Georgia Wareham and Bharti Fulmali produced a late blitz to help their team finish strongly and post a challenging total of 192 runs on the board.

Wareham scored 43 off 33 balls, laced with 4 fours and a six, while Fulmali played a fiery cameo of unbeaten 36 off just 15 balls studded with three sixes and as many fours after replacing Ayushi Soni, who was retired out due to poor strike rate. However, Wareham and Fulmali's late blitz went in vain as GG ended up on the losing side after failing to defend the strong total.
