South Africa batter Dewald Brevis heaped praise on MS Dhoni as he reflected on his journey with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 earlier this year. Brevis was roped in as a replacement by CSK midway through IPL 2025 and the Proteas batter went on to enjoy a short but fruitful stint with the five-time champions.

CSK's batting line-up was struggling when Brevis was roped in as a replacement for injured pacer Gurjapneet Singh. The South Africa batter added much-needed firepower to the team's middle and produced some excellent performances in yellow. He finished the season with 225 runs in six matches at an impressive strike rate of 180 and might get retained by the franchise ahead of the new season.

Opening up on his time at CSK, Brevis shared his experience of playing under Dhoni, who led the franchise in the second half of the season after an injury to regular captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. Brevis revealed how Dhoni always remained available for his teammates off the field, calling the CSK legend a 'humble' person.

Brevis said the only time Dhoni was not available for his teammates in his room was when he was sleeping. The South Africa youngster said the former Indian captain was as inspiring off the field as he was on the field during matches.

“I always tell people it was an amazing experience...The one thing I can say about MS is how humble he is as a person—that really stood out for me. Off the field, the time he gives to players and people is special," Brevis told AB de Villiers on his YouTube show.

"His door is always open. If he’s sleeping, that’s the only time it’s closed. I’ve often found myself in his room, just sitting there, chatting about cricket or his hobbies. Everyone knows what he does on the field and at training, but off the field he’s just as inspiring. I really enjoyed my time there,” he added.

Brevis has been unstoppable after his successful spell at CSK and has continued his fine form for South Africa in white-ball cricket. He slammed a stunning knock of unbeaten 125 in a T20I against Australia and followed it up with a half-century in the next game. Brevis has also been in fine form in the ongoing ODI series between the Proteas and England. He slammed a 42-run knock to help South Africa beat England by 5 runs in the first ODI on Thursday.
