New Delhi: Amid much fanfare, Indian cricketing heroes Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will play in the premier List A domestic tournament the Vijay Hazare Trophy from Wednesday after a long period of time. It will be a big boost for the competition in terms of viewership on television, if it's telecasted and online mode.

Both the veterans players will not play the entire tournament but will participate in just a few matches after BCCI's advisory making it compulsory for all the players including the senior ones to participate in the domestic games, when not occupied with their respective international affairs.

Apart from these two players, the tournament will also feature other high-profile players like KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Shubman Gill, Suryakumar Yadav and Ruturaj Gaikwad. While Kohli has featured in 13 matches for Delhi in the tournament, Rohit has played 18 matches for Mumbai scoring a little over 800 runs, which also includes a century.

When did they last play in VHT?

While Kohli last played in the competition way back in 2009-10 season, Rohit appeared for a brief period in the 2017-18 edition for Mumbai. Meanwhile, Delhi will face Andhra Pradesh at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru, while Mumbai will take on Sikkim in Jaipur on Wednesday.

How many matches will Kohli and Rohit play in the competition?

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have been named in the squads for their respective sides Mumbai and Delhi only for the first two matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. It means that the fans would only be able to witness their superstars play for a brief period in the domestic 50-over competition because of the New Zealand ODI series which begins on January 11.

After opening their campaign for their respective sides on the inaugural day of the competition on Wednesday, Kohli and Rohit will represent Delhi and Mumbai next on December 26, Friday, which should possibly mark their end in the tournament. While Delhi's first match will be against Andhra Pradesh, they will play Gujarat next on Friday.

Mumbai will open their campaign against Sikkim while play Uttarakhand next on Friday.
