Once, the fastest man in the world, Usain Bolt has revealed he now struggles to even walk up the stairs at home. Far from the track, Bolt admitted he spends most of his time with his kids at home, or streaming movies. The 100m world record holder has also developed interest in building Lego sets in his free time at home.
Bolt recently made an appearance in the ongoing World Athletics Championships 2025 at the National Stadium in Tokyo, where he received a grand reception from the fans. The former Jamaican sprinter also pulled off his famous To Da World celebration, reminding the fans of his glory days of the past.
The former Jamaican sprinter, who left the world in awe with his pace and athleticism during his peak, revealed how life has taken a drastic turn for him, years after he bid farewell to the tracks. Bolt, whose 100m record of 9.58 seconds remains unmatched to date, admitted to have stopped running after rupturing his achilles last year.
Acknowledging the dip in his fitness after years of being away from the disciplined life of an athlete and regular training as a sprinter, Bolt said he sticks to gym after his injury last year but is thinking of starting running again to get his breathing right and build his stamina.
“No, I mostly do gym workouts. I’m not a fan, but I think now that I’ve been out for a while I have to actually start running. Because when I walk up stairs I get out of breath. I think when I start working on it fully again, I will probably have to do some laps just to get my breathing right," Bolt told UK's The Guardian.
One of the greatest athletes of all time, Bolt's name was synonymous with speed and excellence during his peak. He won an impressive eight Olympic gold medals and 11 World Championship titles between 2008 and 2016 to cement his spot as one of the best sprinters to have lived. He still holds the 100m (9.58 seconds), 200m (19.19 seconds) and the 4X100m relay (36.84 seconds) world records.
Besides his Achilles injury, Bolt has also struggled with scoliosis, a spinal condition that created problems for him throughout his career. Scoliosis is a condition that causes an individual's spine to bend. Bolt's spin curved into an 'S' shape due to the condition, causing problems for him growing up.
One of the greatest sprinters of all time, Bolt might have been synonymous with speed during his active days, but he lives a much more sedentary life today. Providing an insight into a typical day in his life, Bolt revealed that most of his time is consumed by being around his children. He prefers watching movies and building Lego sets when not around his kids.
“Well, normally, I wake up just in time to see the kids off to school, and then it depends on what I have to do. If I have nothing to do, I just chill out. I might work out sometimes if I’m in a good mood. I just watch some series and chill until the kids come home," said Bolt.
“I spend some time with them, hang out, until they start annoying me then I leave. And then afterwards, I just stay at home and watch movies or I’m into Lego now, so I do Lego," he added.
