New Delhi: MS Dhoni has once again talked about his future with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and his availability for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. The legendary India captain, who turned 44 last month, has led CSK to five IPL titles.

He stepped down from the franchise's captaincy in 2024 and passed the baton to Ruturaj Gaikwad. The Men in Yellow missed out on a playoffs spot after losing the last league match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in the 17th edition, but they had a terrible campaign in 2025, finishing last in the IPL points table.

CSK’s poor performance aside, Dhoni’s retirement was one of the most discussed topics throughout the season. The World Cup-winning captain has kept the doors open for his participation in the next IPL and said that he and CSK are together, even for the next 15-20 years.

"I hope they don’t think I’ll be playing for another 15-20 years. It’s not about one year or two years. I will always be sitting in a yellow jersey. You know whether I’ll be playing or not in a while, but yeah, you know yourself," Dhoni said in an event.

He feels that the relationship with the franchise has grown over the years, as it has helped him improve as a person and as a cricketer.

Dhoni acknowledges CSK’s poor form in last two seasons

CSK won their fifth title in 2023, beating Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, but after that, the franchise has suffered massive setbacks in the last two seasons and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

He added that the last couple of years have not been good for the franchise, and they have not been up to the mark.

"But what is important is for you to see the learnings. Yes, you had a bad season. But what went wrong? And that was the question for us last year also," Dhoni added.
