New Delhi: Pacer Mohammed Siraj inched closer to the top 10 spot in the latest ICC Test rankings for bowlers after a brilliant performance in the opening Test match against the West Indies at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Siraj moved three spots to No. 12 in the latest rankings, updated on Wednesday, October 8.

While opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal has slipped out of the top 5 of the ICC Test rankings. He has gone from No. 5 to No. 7 after failing to score runs in the first match of the series.

Siraj continued his impressive form from the five-match series against England, taking seven wickets in Ahmedabad, which propelled him three spots to a career-best 12th position and above the 700-point mark for the first time. The Men in Blue registered a dominating victory against the West Indies by an innings and 140 runs at the Narendra Modi Stadium, finishing the match in less than three days.

Siraj delivered a sensational performance in both innings, ending his long wait for a second-innings wicket in home conditions. He outbowled No. 1 Test bowler Jasprit Bumrah, who did not look 100 per cent fit in Ahmedabad.

He made a comeback in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy earlier this year, taking 23 wickets after playing all five Test matches. He also led India's bowling attack in Bumrah's absence in the deciding fifth Test at the Oval Test and helped the team to draw the series 2-2.

Siraj will look to continue his good run with the ball when he faces the West Indies in the second test at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi, starting October 10.

Career-best spot for Ravindra Jadeja

Meanwhile, Ravindra Jadeja is also steadily climbing the batting charts. The all-rounder has moved to a career-best No. 25 in the Test batting charts. The 36-year-old scored an unbeaten 104 runs in India’s only innings against the West Indies in Ahmedabad.

Jadeja had previously reached a career-high of 29th in July this year after a brilliant series in England, where he scored 516 runs in the five-match series.

His contribution with the ball was equally impressive in Ahmedabad. He picked up four wickets in the second innings, which helped him to extend his lead in the all-rounders’ rankings, now 125 points ahead of Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan.

Other notable gainers in the ICC Rankings from the Indian team include KL Rahul and Dhruv Jurel, who have both climbed the batting charts after smashing centuries. Rahul has moved up four places to 35th, while Jurel surged 20 places to 65th after his maiden Test hundred.
