New Delhi: Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh has equalled Bhuvneshwar Kumar's unwanted record in the second T20I match against New Zealand at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium in Raipur on Friday, January 23. The visitors got off to a blistering start after being put in to bat first.

Devon Conway smashed Arshdeep Singh for two boundaries in the first three deliveries of the opening over. He smacked a maximum over deep backward point on the fifth ball, and hit another boundary wide of mid-off on the last ball.

Arshdeep Singh conceded 18 runs in the first over, which is the joint-most expensive opening over by an Indian bowler in a T20I. Ireland's Paul Stirling scored as many runs against Bhuvneshwar Kumar in Malahide on June 28, 2022.

New Zealand set 209-run target

Arshdeep was also expensive in his second over of the innings as Tim Seifert smacked four consecutive boundaries against him on the last four balls. The Men in Blue made a good comeback after that as Harshit Rana dismissed Devon Conway in the very next over, while Varun Chakaravarthy removed Seifert in the fifth over.

Rachin Ravindra then stitched a 55-run partnership with Glenn Phillips for the third wicket, but the latter was removed by Kuldeep Yadav for 19 runs. The wickets kept falling at one end, but Ravindra batted well and scored 44 runs off 26 balls with the help of two boundaries and four maximums.

Skipper Mitchell Santner played a crucial knock in the end, smashing an unbeaten 47 runs off 27 balls with the help of six boundaries and one maximum. Zakary Foulkes also amassed an unbeaten 15 runs off 8 balls as New Zealand scored 208/6 in 20 overs. Arshdeep conceded 53 runs in four overs.

Bumrah rested, Axar injured

Earlier, pacer Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel were not included in India’s playing XI for the second T20I against New Zealand. Harshit Rana came in for Bumrah in the playing XI, and Axar Patel was replaced by Kuldeep Yadav in the team. Captain Suryakumar Yadav said at the toss that Bumrah has been rested for the T20I match in Raipur.

"We have two changes – Axar is missing out because he got hit in the last game. And Bumrah is resting tonight. So Harshit and Kuldeep come in," said Suryakumar Yadav at the toss.
