New Delhi: With plenty at stake, India are set to face-off South Africa in the T20I series opener at the Barabati stadium in Cuttack on Tuesday. Coming off a series victory in the ODI leg, the Indian cricket team will be high on confidence in the first game of the five-match series which promises to be an enthralling encounter.

This series, which is a preparation for the T20 World Cup 2026, will help the selection committee in clarifying the team roles, and the correct combinations for the showpiece event next year. Jasprit Bumrah, who is set to lead the pace department, is on the cusp of a massive record in the shortest format during the first game.

Pace spearhead Bumrah, who currently has 99 wickets in the shortest format, is set to become the fifth bowler overall with 100 scalps to his name across all the formats. If the right-arm speedster clinches a wicket in the series opener, he will complete a big milestone which seems very much possible in the first match only.

On the other hand, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who will be making his return to competitive cricket after an injury layoff, is also on the brink of achieving a major milestone in the shortest format. Hardik currently has 98 wickets in the T20Is and is just two wickets away from hitting the 100-wicket mark.

Couple of months back at the Asia Cup 2025, Indian fast bowler Arshdeep Singh scripted history by becoming the first Indian bowler to scalp 10o wickets in the format. Arshdeep registered the feat in the group clash of the continental cup against Oman.
