New Delhi: India continued their brilliant run in the shortest format in Australia with a 2-1 win in the T20I series after the fifth and final T20I match was abandoned due to rain. The series decider at The Gabba in Brisbane began with a fiery act from Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill who gave the hosts a brilliant start.
In just 4.5 overs, India had reached 52 runs when lightning and thunderstorms disrupted the play forcing the players to go back to the dressing room. It was followed by heavy showers which continued for more that couple of hours forcing the match officials and umpires to call off the play.
The first match was also called off due to rain which Australia won the second T20I of the series taking a 1-0 lead. India then bounced back in the third and fourth match to take an unassailable 2-1 lead in the series.
By virtue of the series victory, India have kept their unbeaten T20I series win record against Australia in Australia intact. The hosts have never won a series against the Men in Blue at home in the shortest format. In addition, Australia are yet to win a T20I bilateral series against India since 2022. This was also Mitchell Marsh's first T20I series defeat as a captain.
Abhishek had scored 23 runs in 13 balls while Gill, who found from in the last match, scored 29 run in 16 balls when lightning disrupted the play. Abhishek's flawless run this series also continued as the southpaw was named the Man of the Tournament.
The series win also marked Suryakumar Yadav's another milestone as a skipper in the shortest format as the fiery batter has went on to become one of the most successful skipper's in the T20Is for India.
