The series will be on the line when India lock horns with South Africa in the must-win third ODI at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Saturday, December 06. The three-match series is perfectly poised at 1-1 after India won the first ODI in Ranchi by 17 runs and the Proteas levelled the series with a 4-wicket win in Raipur on Wednesday.
The toss and dew will be in focus in Vizag as both have been major factors in deciding the first two ODIs of the series. India have has had rotten luck with the toss as the hosts have now lost 20 tosses on the trot. India last won the toss in an ODI in the 2023 ODI World Cup semi-final against New Zealand.
India suffered a crushing four-wicket loss in the last game after a poor show with the ball and on the field. Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad slammed sublime centuries, however, their tons went in vain as India failed to defend a huge total of 358 runs in the game. India didn't make a change in their playing XI in the 2nd ODI, but might consider
Fast bowler Prasidh Krishna was widely criticised for his wayward bowling in the last game, as he turned out to be the most expensive bowler for India in the game. However, he is unlikely to be dropped as India have no alternatives on the bench. However, the team management might consider bringing in pace all-rounder Nitish Reddy for Washington Sundar.
Sundar has failed to make an impact with the bat and hasn't contributed much with the ball in the first two games. The spin all-rounder managed only 14 runs in two games and went wicketless in both matches. There are unlikely to be any changes from India in the batting line-up with the likes of Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Gaikwad doing well.
South Africa have a chance to script history by completing a rare double against India by winning the ODI series after clinching the Test series 2-0 against the hosts. The Proteas are one win away from becoming the first team since Pakistan in 1986-87 to beat India in a Test and ODI series at home on the same tour.
South Africa poses an edge over India when it comes to the head-to-head record between the two teams in ODIs. The Proteas have won 52 out of 96 matches played between the two sides in the format so far. India have 41 wins to their name against South Africa in ODIs. However, in India, the hosts have won 19 out of 36 matches played between the two teams, with South Africa earning 15 victories.
The first two matches in the series so far have been high-scoring affairs, and the trend is likely to continue in Vizag. Toss will be important as dew can be a huge factor during the run chase in the second innings. The wicket is expected to assist the batters, and the shorter dimensions of the ground mean another high-scoring encounter can be on the cards at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.
The weather is expected to remain pleasant throughout the 3rd ODI between India and South Africa in Vizag on Saturday. There are no chances of rain playing spoilsport in the match. Dew is expected by the evening. Both teams will look to bowl first after winning the toss.
The live streaming of the third ODI between India and South Africa will be available on the JioHotstar app and the website. The live telecast of the India-South Africa match will be on the Star Sports network in India. The game will get underway at 1:30 PM IST on Saturday.
