New Delhi: Teenage batter Vaibhav Suryavanshi broke another record during India U19's first Youth Test against Australia U-19 at the Ian Healy Oval in Brisbane. The young Indian batter smashes a 78-ball hundred on the second day of the match.
The Indian bowlers delivered a sensational bowling performance to restrict Australia to 243/10 on the first day of the match. Opening the innings, Suryavanshi struck 113 runs off 86 balls with the help of nine boundaries and eight maximums.
He completed the milestone with a maximum and a boundary of successive deliveries. His 78-ball century is the second-fastest ton in Youth Test history, which is only behind compatriot and his captain Ayush Mhatre, who took 64 deliveries to reach the three-figure mark against England U19 earlier this year in July.
The hundred against Australia U-19 from Suryavanshi is also the fastest by any batter in a Youth Test match on Australian soil. The record was previously held by Australia's Liam Blackford, who hit a 124-ball century against England U19 during a Youth Test in January 2023.
At 14 years and 188 days, Suryavanshi is also the youngest ever batter in history to smash a ton in a Youth Test in Australia.
In July this year, he became the first player to hit a fifty and take a wicket in the same Youth Test before turning 15. He achieved this milestone in England, overtaking the previous record held by Bangladesh’s Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who did this at the age of 15 years and 167 days.
Suryavanshi also levelled with New Zealand's legendary batter Brendon McCullum's record for scoring two centuries in the men’s U19 Tests in less than 100 deliveries.
Earlier this year, Suryavanshi grabbed a lot of spotlight when he smashed the fastest century by an Indian in the history of the IPL. He took just 35 deliveries to complete the milestone, which is also the second fastest in the league’s history.
