New Delhi: Australia have named a 15-member squad for the 2026 T20 World Cup, starting on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka. Injured players like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Tim David are included in the preliminary squad for the tournament.
Cummins is currently recovering from a back injury and played only the third Ashes Test in Adelaide. The Test and ODI skipper is set to undergo a scan in January that will determine his availability for the T20 World Cup.
David sustained a hamstring injury during a Big Bash League match on Boxing Day, while fast bowler Hazlewood missed the five-match Test series against England due to Achilles soreness after a hamstring injury.
"Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Tim David are tracking well and we are confident they will be available for the World Cup. This is a preliminary squad so should changes need to be made they will ahead of the support period," Chair of selectors George Bailey said.
All-rounder Cooper Connolly has also been included in the squad. He didn't play in the series against South Africa, New Zealand or India in 2025 and featured in just six T20Is. But has made a great start in the BBL for Perth Scorchers, scoring 170 runs at a strike-rate of 166.66 and also taking five wickets with an economy of 7.62.
Mitchell Owen and Ben Dwarshuis missed out on the selection, while the selectors have also not included a second wicketkeeper option in the squad. Mitchell Marsh will lead the side, while Adam Zampa, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Matthew Kuhnemann, and Cooper Connolly are the spin bowling options.
The Aussies will start their World Cup campaign on February 11 against Ireland, followed by group matches against Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Oman in Sri Lanka. They are also scheduled to play three T20I matches in Pakistan in late January as preparation for the World Cup.
