Sunrisers Hyderabad won their maiden Indian Premier League title with an eight-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2010 edition of the glamour tournament's final.

Under the captaincy of David Warner, SRH ended their hunt for the trophy after debuting in the competition in 2013. SRH won the toss and opted to bat in the title clash at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

The Australian opener led from the front as scored 69 runs from 38 balls to lift SRH to a formidable 208 for seven in 20 overs. The left hander blasted eight fours and three sixes as he got support from Shikhar Dhawan (28 off 25 balls, 3x4, 1x6), Yuvraj Singh (38 off 23 balls, 4x4, 2x6) and Ben Cutting (39 off 15 balls, 3x4, 4x6).

SRH lost wickets in the middle overs but not before Yuvraj and Cutting batted aggressively to score at a brisk pace. Their efforts lifted SRH to a strong total of 208 runs.

RCB pacer Chris Jordan (3/45) was the most successful, Sreenath Aravind claimed two wickets (2/30) while Yuzvendra Chahal (1/35) was also among the wickets.

RCB collapse

RCB were quick off the blocks as Chris Gayle and Virat Kohli blasted the SRH bowlers to all corners of the Chinnaswamy. West Indian Gayle was at his explosive best as he smashed 76 runs of 38 balls, with the help of four boundaries and eight sixes.

Kohli contributed 54 from 35 deliveries including five boundaries and two sixes. Together they produced 114 in 10.3 overs and it seemed like RCB would stroll to victory in what would have been their maiden IPL title.

Before the final, RCB had crossed 200 runs three times previously in their home ground. But once Gayle departed in the 11th over, caught by Bipul Sharma at third man off Cutting, RCB inexplicably fumbled despite reaching 140/1 in the 13th over.

Cutting put the brakes on RCBs scoring as he accounted for Gayle and KL Rahul (11). Apart from Gayle and Kohli, none batted sensibly as RCB fell short by eight runs.

But despite losing Gayle, Kohli and AB de Villiers (5) cheaply, RCB had a chance as they needed 47 off 34 balls but Shane Watson (11), Stuart Binny (18) and Sachin Baby (9) couldn't cope with pressure as RCB wilted, unable to score 18 off the last over, bowled by the experienced Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

Brief Scores: Sunrisers Hyderabad 208 for 7 (Warner 69, Cutting 39 not out, Jordan 3/45); Royal Challengers Bangalore 200 for 7 (Gayle 76, Kohli 54, Cutting 2/35). SRH won by eight runs.
