West Indies all-rounder Jason Holder and Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur were handed a new lease of life in their respective Indian Premier League (IPL) careers as the duo hit a jackpot at the IPL 2026 auction in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16. Holder was sold to the Gujarat Titans for Rs 7 crore, while Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) roped in Mustafizur Rahman for Rs 9.20 crore.
Both Holder and Mustafizur have been part of the IPL for several seasons, however, the duo have failed to cement their places in any of the franchises that they have played for. Mustafizur was part of the Delhi Capitals squad in IPL 2025 and was released by the franchise after taking 4 wickets in 3 matches last season.
Mustafizur's most fruitful recent stint in the IPL came with the Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2024, where he picked up 14 wickets in 9 matches. CSK, understandably, went after the Bangladesh pacer and appeared intent on signing him; however, they lost to KKR in a bidding war. KKR landed the left-arm speedster for Rs 9.20 crore.
Holder, too, has been part of the IPL for six seasons, with his last stint coming with the Rajasthan Royals in 2023. He played 8 matches for the franchise in IPL 2023 and managed only 12 runs while picking up 4 wickets. Much like Mustafizur, Holder's new mega deal with GT might mark the revival of his IPL career.
Holder was rewarded for his fine performances in T20 leagues across the globe. The West Indies all-rounder scored 267 runs and picked up 13 wickets in 10 matches for the St Kitts & Nevis Patriots in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2025. He also did well with 9 wickets in 8 matches in the MLC and has so far taken 5 wickets in 3 games for the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20 2025 in the UAE.
Chennai Super Kings went after Holder, but lost in a bidding war to the Gujarat Titans, before signing Australia's Matthew Short at his base price of Rs 1.5 crore. Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders signed New Zealand wicket-keeper batter Tim Seifert at his base price of Rs 1.50 crore and Indian batter Rahul Tripathi at his base price of Rs 75 lakh.
Delhi Capitals battled KKR to make the winning bid for Sri Lanka batter Pathum Nissanka, signing him for Rs 4 crore to further bolster their batting depth at the IPL 2026 auction. Earlier, KKR spent a whopping Rs 25.20 crore on Australian all-rounder Cameron Green to make him the most expesnive overseas player in IPL history.
