Jasprit Bumrah enters elite club of century of wicket-takers

In Cuttack on Tuesday, Bumrah claimed 2/17 off three overs in India's five-match T20I series opener against South Africa to enter the elite club of bowlers.

New Delhi: Jasprit Bumrah became the first Indian and fifth overall to complete a century of wickets in all three formats of cricket.

In Cuttack on Tuesday, Bumrah claimed 2/17 off three overs in India's five-match T20I series opener against South Africa to enter the elite club of bowlers.

The right armer is the is the second Indian bowler after Arshdeep Singh to claim 100 wickets in the 20-over format and the first Indian with a century of wickets in all three formats.

He joined Sri Lanka's Lasith Malinga, New Zealand's Tim Southee, Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan and Pakistan's Shaheen Afridi to have a ton of wickets in the three formats.

India won the first T20I by 101 runs, their biggest margin of victory against South Africa at home, for a 1-0 series in the five-match series.

All-rounder Hardik Pandya made a splash on return to the national team after a left quadricep injury as his blistering half century lifted India to a healthy 175/6.

He blasted six fours and four sixes batting at No. 6 that turned the match on its head after the hosts had lost wickets in the powerplay and middle overs.

South Africa were shot out for 74 in 12.3 overs, their lowest score in T20Is with Brevis (22) being their top-scorer.

It was India's biggest win on home soil against South Africa.

India skipper Sutyakumar Yadav summoned six bolwers to bowl and all responded with wickets as Arshdeep Singh (2/14), Varun Chakaravarthy (2/19), Bumrah (2/17), Axar Patel (2/7), Shivam Dube (1/1) and Pandya (1/16) made usdeful contributions.

Bumrah reached a century of T20I wickets in his 81st match, at an average of 18.11 and an economy rate of 6.37 and a strike rate of 17.07.
