New Delhi: Football icon Lionel Messi, on Tuesday, visited Vantara which is a wildlife rescue, rehabilitation and conservation centre in Jamnagar founded by Anant Ambani. Messi, who was accompanied by his Inter Miami teammates Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul, participated in the traditional Hindu rituals and also interacted with the conservation teams at the famous facility.
Upon arrival, the trio was accorded a warm traditional welcome which featured folk music, floral greetings and a traditional ceremonial Aarti. During the visit, the football legend, who was on a India tour, toured the facility's conservations ecosystem which has rescued big cats, elephants, herbivores, reptiles and fostered animals.
He also interacted with the caregivers and veterinary staff and observed animal welfare practices, including specialised medical care, nutrition and rehabilitation protocols.
According to news agency PTI, Messi was quoted as saying in a release that: 'What Vantara does is truly beautiful, the work for animals, the care they receive, the way they are rescued and looked after. It is genuinely impressive'.
'We had a wonderful time, felt completely at ease throughout, and it is an experience that stays with you. We will surely visit again to continue inspiring and supporting this meaningful work.'
Earlier on Monday, Messi along with two other footballers ended his much-anticipated G.O.A.T. India Tour following his visit to Delhi, which was the final leg of his three-day tour. On the tour, in which the football legend gave the Indian fans a lifetime of opportunity, Messi started off by visiting Kolkata on Saturday, which proved to be chaotic and it was followed by his visit tom Hyderabad the same evening.
On Sunday, Messi and his partners spent the entire day in Mumbai where they were visited by a lot of celebrities and sportspersons in the famous Brabourne Stadium.
