Maiden Muthusamy ton makes South Africa comfortable
Muthusamy became the third Protean batter to score a Test century from No.7 or lower against India, after Quinton de Kock (111, Visakhapatnam, 2019) and Lance Klusener (102*, Cape Town, 1997).
New Delhi: Senuran Muthusamy hit his maiden Test century as South Africa reached 428 for seven at lunch on the second day of the seocnd Test in Guwahati on Sunday.
Muthusamy became the third Protean batter to score a Test century from No.7 or lower against India, after Quinton de Kock (111, Visakhapatnam, 2019) and Lance Klusener (102*, Cape Town, 1997).
The left hander was unbeaten of 107 off 203 deliveries including 10 boundaries and two sixes along with Marco Jansen (51 not out off 57 balls, 3x4, 4x6).
India could only pick up one wicket in two sessions as Ravindra Jadeja (2/78) stumped Kyle Verreynne (45), breaking his 88-run stand with Muthusamy.
But the visiting team then stitched together an unbeaten 94-run stand for the eighth wicket between Muthusamy and Jansen, scoring at brisk rate of at nearly six runs an over.
