New Delhi: Run-machine Virat Kohli continued his sensational form in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26 on Friday scoring a brilliant half-century. After Kohli smashed a century in the first game for Delhi in VHT on Wednesday, he seemed to be equally explosive in team's second group match against Gujarat on December 26.
After Delhi were put into bat first, Kohli's 77 and skipper Rishabh Pant's 70-run mark helped the side post 254/9 on the board in the stipulated 50 overs. With a strike rate of over 126, Kohli's power-packed knock came off just 61 balls studded with 13 boundaries and a lone six.
While the star batter was swiftly moving towards another century, which would have been his 59th List A hundred, Gujarat spinner Vishal Jayswal denied the Delhi batter the same. Kohli, trying to continue his flamboyance, missed a delivery which went straight into the hands of wicketkeeper Urvil Patel who made no mistake utilising the stumping opportunity which ended the innings of the star batter.
Jayswal also claimed the prized wicket of Rishabh Pant later in the innings to end his day on a memorable note at the Centre of Excellence ground in Bengaluru.
Hailing from Gujarat, Vishal Jayswal is a slow left-arm orthodox bowler who does not believe in much turn and rather relies on flight and drifting the delivery. Jayswal has the quality of deceiving the batters with his flighted deliveries that are difficult to read and play making him unique.
He made his senior debut for Gujarat in the 2022 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and followed it up with his Vijay Hazare Trophy debut an year later in November 2023. He has built his prowess in the red-ball cricket in these years and excelled in the format.
Jayswal made his early impressions in the under-23 CK Nayudu Trophy back in 2022-23 where he emerged as the highest wicket-taker with 70 wickets helping the side clinch the U23 title. This brilliant performance led to his debut in the Ranji Trophy an year later in February 2024 against Tripura. Since then, the slow bowler has impressed with 40 wickets in 11 matches at the average of above 23 and best figures of 6 for 59.
