New Zealand have announced their squad for the T20 World Cup 2026. All-rounder Mitchell Santner has been named captain of the side, while pacer Jacob Duffy has been rewarded after his breakthrough year in 2025. 31-year-old Duffy, who was one of New Zealand's best bowlers last year, will feature in his maiden T20 World Cup for the country.
Duffy bagged an impressive 81 wickets in 36 matches across formats in international cricket in 2025 to establish his credentials as one of the most effective fast bowlers in the world at present. He broke Richard Hadlee's 40-year-old record for the most wickets by a New Zealand bowler (79) in an year and has deservingly earned his place in the 15-man squad.
Duffy will be looking to continue his fine form for the Kiwis in the showpiece event, which will be played in India and Sri Lanka. He will partner the likes of Matt Henry and Lockie Ferguson in an experienced pace attack. While Duffy has been rewarded for his recent heroics, New Zealand have taken conditions-first approach by picking a spin-heavy squad for the T20 World Cup 2026.
Considering the spin-friendly conditions in India and Sri Lanka, New Zealand have opted for greater spin depth by picking Ish Sodhi as the specialist spinner. The senior spinner will be supported by the likes of Santner, Michael Bracewell, Rachindra Ravindra and Glenn Phillips in the spin department.
New Zealand also have a strong all-rounders department featuring the likes of Santner, Bracewell, James Neesham, Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell. Senior pacer Adam Milne is also part of the squad. The batting looks settled with the likes of Devon Conway, Ravindra, Mitchell, Fin Allen and Mark Chapman forming a strong core.
