New Delhi: Indian pacer Mohammed Shami sent a strong message to the selectors of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) by claiming a five-wicket haul in Ranji Trophy on Saturday. Shami registered his 14th five-wicket haul for Bengal in a match against Services at the Bengal Cricket Academy Ground in Kalyani.
Opening batter SG Rohilla, Ravi Chauhan, Rajat Paliwal, Vineet Dhankhar and AP Sharma were among the five players dismissed by the veteran pacer to claim another five-wicket haul in First Class Cricket. Courtesy his brilliant spell of 5 for 51, Services ended the day with 231/8, after being folded for 186 runs in the first innings.
In the first innings as well, Shami has returned with figures of 2 for 37 delivering for the side emphatically. Along with Shami, another Bengal bowler Mukesh Kumar also claimed two wickets to dismantle the opposition. At the end of the day, they still trail by 102 runs with just two wickets in hand after a follow-on was inflicted. Bengal would be looking to take most advantage on the fourth day after a score of 519 in the first innings.
Meanwhile Shami has constantly been ignored from the Indian national team despite a strong performance in the domestic circuit. Earlier, BCC chief selector Ajit Agarkar said that Shami's exclusion from the Indian team is all because of his injury-prone nature and fitness issue that have been troubling him for a long time.
