There was no trophy presentation ceremony after the Asia Cup 2025 final as the Indian team refused to accept the winners' cup from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman and Pakistan minister Mohsin Naqvi. India beat Pakistan by 5 wickets in a thrilling final at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on Sunday to clinch their second successive Asia Cup crown.
Naqvi, who is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), embarrassingly waited on the dais along with other members of the presentation party during the post-match presentation ceremony after the final. However, the Indian team refused to be handed over the trophy by the interior minister of Pakistan, who is known for his anti-India stance.
The presentation ceremony was delayed by nearly an hour after Naqvi refused to leave the dais despite India making it clear that they wouldn't accept the trophy from the ACC chief. As the head of the organising body, Naqvi was well within his rights to present the trophy to the winners and engage in a customary handshake with the Indian players.
However, India, who maintained a strict 'no-handshake' policy with Pakistan throughout the tournament, continued the policy post the final. The Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian team posed for pictures together, but without the trophy, after refusing to accept it from Naqvi.
While Abhishek Sharma, Tilak Varma, and Kuldeep Yadav collected their individual awards, the Pakistan team received their runners-up medals from Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) chief Aminul Islam Bulbul. However, Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav didn't come out on the stage to take the trophy from Naqvi.
"I have been informed by the Asian Cricket Council that the Indian cricket team will not be collecting their awards tonight. So that does conclude the post-match presentation," Simon Doull announced at the post-match ceremony, confirming that India won't receive the trophy from Naqvi.
The Indian team celebrated on the dias without the trophy after refusing to receive it from Naqvi. Indian skipper Suryakumar imitated Rohit Sharma's famous walk following India's T20 World Cup victory last year, albeit without the trophy, as the Indian players celebrated their Asia Cup triumph.
There were bizarre scenes at the Dubai International Stadium as Indian players celebrated without the winners' medals around their necks or the silverware in their hands. Nonetheless, there were no regrets on the faces of the Indian players as they made the most of the occasion by celebrating their triumph passionately.
India enjoyed a phenomenal campaign in the tournament as they went on to win the Asia Cup 2025 title unbeaten, including three straight victories over Pakistan. India defeated Pakistan twice in the group stage and the Super 4 stage, respectively, before beating them in the final on Sunday.
It was India's second consecutive Asia Cup title and ninth overall as they extended their dominance in the tournament as the most successful team of all time.
