Sourav Ganguly, one of India's greatest ODI batters and captains, enjoyed a terrific record in the ICC Cricket World Cups. He made his ODI debut in January 1992, aged 19, against the West Indies in Brisbane, Australia. Despite being dropped immediately after making his debut, he went on to represent the Indian team in 113 Tests and 311 ODIs until he announced his retirement in 2008. The left-handed batter played in three editions of the World Cup: 1999, 2003, and 2007.
Across the three World Cup editions, Ganguly amassed 1006 runs in 21 matches at an impressive average of 55.88, including four centuries and three half-centuries. His ability to anchor the innings and accelerate when needed made him one of India's most reliable batters in ICC events.
With four centuries on the biggest stage in 21 matches, Sourav Ganguly is seventh on the list of the most centuries in the World Cup.
1999 World Cup: In his debut World Cup, Ganguly announced himself on the global stage with an out-of-the-world 183 against Sri Lanka at Taunton, which remains the fifth-highest individual score in World Cup history. His stellar innings helped India to put up a huge total of 373/6 and eventually win the game by 157 runs.
2003 World Cup: As India's captain, he led the team to the final while playing the lead role with the bat alongside Sachin Tendulkar. He scored three centuries in the tournament, against Namibia (112*), Kenya (107), and against Kenya (111*) in the semi-final. He finished the campaign as the 2nd highest run scorer, accumulating 465 runs at an average of 58.12. On the field, Ganguly's leadership skills and tactical acumen impressed even his counterparts.
2007 World Cup: Though India had a disappointing campaign, exiting in the group stage, Ganguly produced some positive performances in the tournament. He scored a solid 66 against Bangladesh and a dominating 89 against Bermuda.
