Sri Lankan great Tilakratne Dilshan enjoyed a fabulous international career for his country, showcasing his prowess in all formats of the game. Dilshan was known for his exquisite timing, attacking prowess and ability to score big under pressure. He played a crucial role in helping Sri Lanka become a force to be reckoned with across all formats during his playing days.
While he was an exceptional batter, Dilshan was also an equally good all-rounder, a more than handy spinner, and a brilliant fielder who could also keep wickets. Sri Lanka's third-highest run-getter of all time in ODI World Cup history, Dilshan played a key role in helping his team reach back-to-back finals in the 2007 and 2011 editions of the tournament.
Dilshan played 87 Tests, 330 ODIs and 80 T20Is for Sri Lanka during his eventful career and amassed 5492, 10290 and 1889 runs in the three formats, respectively. He is Sri Lanka's 4th-highest run-getter of all time in ODIs and the 3rd-highest in T20Is, despite last playing a T20I game for his country in 2016. He was Sri Lanka's leading run-getter in T20Is for quite some time before being overtaken by current top-scorer Kusal Perera.
Tilakratne Dilshan is currently 10th on the list of batters with the most centuries in ODI World Cup history, with 4 tons to his name in the showpiece event. Dilshan played 27 matches in the ODI World Cup and smashed 1112 runs at an average of 52.95 and a strike rate of 92.7, including the highest score of 161 not out.
Dilshan scored his maiden ODI World Cup century in the 2007 edition, where he smashed 217 runs in 11 matches at an average of 31. The right-hander took his performances to the next level in the 2011 World Cup, where he finished as the highest run-getter of the tournament with 500 runs in 9 matches at an excellent average of 62.50 and a strike rate of over 90.
Dilshan smashed two centuries in the 2011 ODI World Cup, helping Sri Lanka reach the final where they lost to India to miss out on the trophy. Dilshan slammed his highest individual knock of 161 runs off just 146 balls against Bangladesh in the 2015 World Cup. He enjoyed a stellar run in the tournament with 395 runs from 7 matches at an average of 65.83 and a strike rate of 96.57, including 2 centuries and a solitary fifty.
Dilshan is second on the elite list of Sri Lankan batters with most centuries in the ODI World Cup, behind only the legendary Kumar Sangakkara, who smashed 5 tons in the tournament.
