Lasith Malinga is undoubtedly one of the most lethal bowlers in the history of world cricket. With a brilliant track record in the T20Is and Tests, Malinga has mainly been instrumental for Sri Lanka in the ODI format over the years. His brilliance with the ball has made him one of the most destructive bowlers in the 50-over format, surpassing some of the veterans from other big teams like Pakistan and Australia especially.

In a total of 226 matches played, Malinga has scalped 338 wickets with best figures of 6/38. Apart from this, he has also taken eight 5-wickets hauls, which is a rare feat not achieved by many bowlers in the world in ODIs. Malinga is also among very few bowlers who has taken more than 300 or more wickets in the 50-over format. The fast-paced Sri Lankan player also has a record of delivering consistent performances for his team over the years.

He is the only bowler in the history to have snapped four wickets on four consecutive deliveries in the 50-over format. Malinga, with his peculiar and unique bowling action, has been a threat to numerous world-class batters across all then formats, especially the ODIs, where the Sri Lankan has dominated the most.

With a terrific record across all the formats in cricket, Malinga has been the man for the big occasions for the Sri Lankan team. While his performances have helped the Asian side win many bilateral fixtures, Malinga has never shirked away from performing well in the big ICC events. Be it the crucial matches in the ICC World Cups or the famous Champions Trophy, Malinga has never failed to deliver for the Lankans.

Malinga has represented Sri Lanka in four Champions Trophy editions from 2006 to 2017 and played a total of 16 matches. In the four editions, the bowler has scalped 25 wickets including two four-wicket hauls. When it comes to bowlers with most number of wickets in the showpiece event, Malinga sits on the second spot in terms of the wickets taken, a place after New Zealand KD Mills, who leads the charts with 28 wickets in Champions Trophy.

In the 2013 edition of the marquee event, Malinga played a pivotal role in Sri Lanka's campaign throughout the tournament. His ability to bowl perfectly in the death overs and pick crucial wickets made him one of the most sought-after bowlers in the history of the tournament.
